The writing in Bethesda's games thinks you are stupid. The painted world in Oblivion, Shivering Isles. There's a reason some of the most memorable moments of the later games come from visual and ideological extremism. The silt stained volcanic rock you climb over in the course of that game leaves a greater impact than anything you find in later games. There's also the other aspects of Morrowind people love. Its about what bethesda has taken away from the game itself. ![]() New Vegas streamlined big guns and small guns into Guns. It all becomes like dust, only a burden to the wind. To make the customer feel like both the player and the architect is a beautiful thing that modern games have eroded away like so many old commandments. It was not like a movie or book where its something you experience. Thats what the beauty of video games and especially RPGs was. Its not about some mindless grognard 'they simplified my game for CASUALS' its about how they have taken the power out of the player, they have killed the player's ability to make their own art within the constraints of the game. ![]() Optimally in a video game you are constantly finding new toys to play with and discovering new things you can do and new interactions you can see. THis is detrimental to what video games are. THe games have steadily over time removed agency and opportunity for creativity from the player. I can no longer create a character of my own in something like skyrim or fallout 4. its not about lack of skills, its about what their loss means. ![]() The games are just less fun to play for me.
